Sono passati 4 anni dall'ultimo progetto discografico di Ariana Grande, una delle voci più inconfondibili del panorama musicale internazionale. Da Positions, uscito nel 2020, l'artista di Boca Raton, in cima alle classifiche con brani quali "Dangerous woman", "Break Free", e ancora "Break Free" ft. Zedd, il 12 gennaio è tornata con un nuovo singolo.
Lo stesso giorno in cui sono usciti i Club Dogo con il loro ultimo album, e in cui a fare la comparsa sul mercato è anche l'ultimo attesissimo disco di Kid Cudi, Ariana Grande esce con "yes and ?", un singolo dal sapore pop che già si preannuncia un grande successo radiofonico 2024. Ariana lo aveva spoilerato nelle settimane scorse, indossando una felpa che vedeva stampata sul petto proprio il titolo del brano, tanto che ne avevamo anche scritto qui.
Il testo approfondisce una tematica molto importante per l'artista, negli ultimi anni spesso al centro di moltissime polemiche legate al suo aspetto fisico, perché considerata troppo magra. Subito dopo è stato il momento della dichiarazione pubblica sui social in cui affermava di aver usato botox e filler, ma che non facessero per lei, video che aveva mosso la morale pubblica scatenando il dibattito intorno al tema (tantissimi anche i messaggi di sostegno). L'artista è stata anche criticata perché si era tenuta volontariamente lontana dai riflettori per stare meglio, un momento di distanza derivato anche dal grande trauma provocato dall'attentato di Manchester del 22 maggio 2017: proprio mentre l'artista si trovava sul palco un attacco terroristico suicida aveva causato la morte di 23 persone.
Ariana Grande il 12 gennaio esce allo scoperto, e nel testo di "yes and?" affronta proprio il tema del pubblico patibolo, della critica e del sentirsi sempre in diritto (gli altri) di criticare le vite degli altri (la sua).
